Description
The Role
AIM is a deep-tech startup building advanced high-power laser systems to protect people from weaponised drones. We are seeking highly motivated Distributed Systems Engineers, experienced in Go (“golang”), and based in Vancouver, BC.
At AIM, you will work closely with our Engineering and R&D teams to design, develop, and improve the distributed systems that supply real-time data to our laser control systems.
The role focuses on distributed systems with an emphasis on practical performance, scalability, and deployment in real-world conditions rather than purely research-based work.
The Commitment
We are looking for candidates who are available immediately on a full-time basis and are able to work effectively in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment.
Compensation is between $80,000 and $135,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, and demonstrated capability.
Due to clearance and security requirements, this role is open to Canadian Citizens only, with the ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance.
What You’ll Do
- Use Go and other programming languages to develop distributed systems for integration of precision sensors and effectors for identification, tracking, and neutralization of drones.
- Use React and other tools to develop a next-generation user interface to our C2, situational awareness, and sensor fusion systems.
- Use logging, metrics, and observability best practices to develop user visualizations for real-time feedback and situational awareness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, hardware, and R&D) to integrate with our laser platform.
- Document experiments, methodologies, and results clearly to support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
- Ensure work is delivered to a high standard, meets timelines, and results in production-ready software deliverables
What You’ll Bring
- At least 2 years of experience with distributed systems
- At least 2 years of professional, full-time experience with Go
- Experience with source code control systems (e.g. Git) and collaborative development practices
- Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, manage competing deadlines, and adapt to changing requirements
- Attention to detail with an emphasis on ensuring the accuracy of data supplied to systems designed to protect humans
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
How You’ll Benefit
- Competitive remuneration aligned with experience and performance
- Extended health benefits
- Flexible working hours to support work-life balance
- Opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects at the forefront of defence technology
- Professional learning and development opportunities, including exposure to advanced sensor, effector, and C2 systems
- A fast-paced, collaborative environment where you can take ownership of meaningful technical challenges and see your work deployed in real-world applications
- A supportive workplace culture that values innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement
A commitment to ensuring diversity, inclusion, and equality is embedded throughout our organisation for the benefit of our customers and our team. We strive for a positive and engaging workplace where mental health and wellbeing are supported. We welcome applicants from all diverse backgrounds.
